ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0: New Features We’re Excited About

After 12 years, Esri is leaving the 10.x major version scheme and moving to 11. The biggest shift is a drop in support for ArcMap, and any of your workflows that involve ArcMap and Enterprise will need reimplementation. However, there are smaller changes coming in Enterprise 11 that we think are pretty neat.

The first change that we’re really excited about are Service Webhooks. We use webhooks at CartoLab to integrate systems from Enterprise (Organization webhooks) to Github to Slack to trigger deployments or to monitor systems. In Entperise 11, Service Webhooks bring that same functionality to your published feature services. With Service Webhooks it could be possible to generate per-feature reports in real-time or get notified of edits as they happen. This feature has been available in ArcGIS Online for a while, and we’re excited that it’s landing in Enterprise.

For system administrators, a new tool is being released that will help you monitor and track problems your Enterprise deployment may be experiencing and give you more information about your system than just the logs alone. The Operational Health Tool, a python script that can scan your system for issues, is being intorduced in 11. The script is located in your Portal installation folder in the tools directory and can be run from the command line.

For those of us that have one foot solidly in the open source GIS world, Enterprise 11 brings support for the OGC GeoPackage standard and allows Publishing and Exporting Data in the GeoPackage format. They’ve also added the ability to add GeoJSON layers to web maps from a web url.

Another interesting feature that’s being added is Geodata service support. With this feature and ArcGIS Pro 3.0 you can publish an enterprise or file geodatabase over the network or on the internet and then replicate and periodically synchronise them. This will allow users to share a geodatabase in multiple locations with fewer headaches.

There are a bunch of big changes coming to ArcGIS Enterprise with this new version. Full details can be found at the links below:
